Biden’s Migrant Priorities: Americans Left in the Dust, Says Malliotakis

In a recent discussion addressing the emergency funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis shared her frustrations about the ongoing mismanagement of resources by the Biden-Harris administration. Her concerns were highlighted as tensions rise among American citizens feeling the effects of natural disasters, while at the same time seeing taxpayer dollars allocated to support undocumented migrants.

Just before Halloween, Congress approved $20 billion for FEMA, yet Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas raised alarms, claiming that FEMA might not have enough funds through the end of the hurricane season. This discrepancy raises eyebrows as Malliotakis pointed out that some funds are being used to provide housing and services for migrants—particularly those who have entered the country illegally. The Congresswoman argues this is a result of a policy crisis created by the administration’s changes in immigration policies. It appears that American citizens impacted by hurricanes and other disasters are being overshadowed by the administration’s focus on migrant housing.

Malliotakis painted a vivid picture of the current crisis, citing various past disasters—like the devastating fires in Maui and the Ohio train derailment. It seems that the administration is constantly reacting rather than having a solid plan in place. According to the Congresswoman, the federal government appears to take too long to respond, leaving American families to fend for themselves amid calamities. With the situation as it stands, she feels that priorities are misaligned, placing the needs of non-citizens above those of hard-working Americans who have experienced loss and devastation.

Among the pressing concerns she raised was the troubling fact that some of the individuals benefiting from these emergency resources have criminal backgrounds. Malliotakis remarked that taxpayer money is being used to shelter individuals with a history of severe offenses, creating unease for the citizens footing the bill. The Congresswoman’s perspective underscores growing frustration among taxpayers who feel their needs are being sidestepped for the benefit of those who have broken laws.

The conversation also touched on whether Congress should reconvene early to address this urgent funding issue. While some voices call for action, especially considering the ongoing need for disaster response, Malliotakis was clear that without a formal assessment from the president detailing specific needs, it would be premature for Congress to act. She pointed out the president’s ability to allocate funds and take action but criticized him for his inaction in this pressing circumstance.

As the nation faces a looming funding crisis for disaster response, the question remains: when will priorities shift to address the needs of American citizens? With frustrations bubbling over, one can only hope this administration finally develops a cohesive plan that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens during trying times. In the meantime, taxpayers will likely continue watching, waiting, and wondering how their hard-earned dollars are being spent.
