Meta AI Praises Harris While Slamming Trump as ‘Crude and Lazy’

In the world of technology, it seems artificial intelligence (AI) has jumped into the political ring, and not everyone is applauding. Recently, a news segment highlighted how AI chatbots are offering their own biased slants on political candidates. When someone asks an AI like Meta AI or Alexa whom they should vote for, they might get responses filled with shining praise for Kamala Harris and a laundry list of criticisms aimed at Donald Trump. It appears that in the quest for “non-biased” information, we are losing sight of balance and fairness.

Imagine a chat session where you just want to gather some info and you formulate a question like, “Why should I vote for Kamala Harris?” and voilà! You get a response singing her praises, emphasizing her struggles and achievements as a woman of color. Next, you switch gears and ask, “What about Donald Trump?” and suddenly, the mood shifts. The response points out character flaws and labels him with terms like “selfish,” “crude,” and “lazy.” It’s like having a chat at the dinner table where one relative hogs the spotlight while the other gets picked on – not very polite, is it?

The segment featured a reaction from a commentator named Kurt Knutsson, who pointed out the inherent flaw behind these algorithms: they are crafted by humans. The chilling reality is that big tech might be unwillingly tilting the scale when it comes to political discourse. He argued that the desire for unfiltered truth from these tech gadgets is being clouded by the biases of the people who create them. It’s hard to believe that a system designed to help us can also end up serving us up a heaping plate of propaganda instead of just the facts.

Moreover, this isn’t the first time tech giants have faced scrutiny. In the past, we’ve seen similar issues where requests for neutral information resulted in slanted responses that raised eyebrows. It might be time to rethink where we get our information. Should we rely on machines which, as Kurt pointed out, lack human brains and relatable perspectives? Perhaps tuning into news programs hosted by everyday people who discuss current events is a better route, as they might provide a more experienced lens than an AI-generated response.

To add insult to injury, as the election season advances, many folks are inundated with political text messages, even from parties they don’t affiliate with. The flood of unsolicited texts has become a common complaint. Kurt humorously shared his own frustrations, and he wasn’t alone. It can feel like opening the floodgates to an uninvited guest who just won’t leave. While it might be hard to block these nuisances, there are ways to manage it – although responding with a “STOP” message may not always do the trick.

In a society increasingly powered by AI, voters should engage their critical thinking. They must remember that not every Byte (pun intended) of information is created equal. Navigating this battleground requires a discerning eye and a willingness to seek out diverse sources of information. Ultimately, as we gear up for the upcoming elections, it would be wise to rely on human connection, be it friends, family, or trusted media outlets, rather than automated systems that supply partial truths.
